I was given a heavenly opportunity in November 1984 to provide a discourse on the profound and transformational power of repeating God's name in the modest courtyard of Kripalu Kutir in Mangarh, today known as Bhakti Dham and established by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj. This conversation, now included in the book "Bhagavannama Mahatmya - The Glories of the Divine Name," is an example of the vast amount of spiritual knowledge transmitted via the teachings of venerated Saints and our sacred scriptures.
Scripture and Saints' Intertwined Wisdom :- The story of "Bhagavannama Mahatmya" is a tapestry composed of passages from the Vedas, Upanishads, Gita, Ramayana, and Bhagavatam. It also incorporates the teachings of revered saints like Jagadguru Shankaracharya, Tulsidas Ji, Gauranga Mahaprabhu, and Jiva Gosvami. These allusions demonstrate the profound ingrained nature of pronouncing God's name inside our spiritual tradition. The practice's ageless and universal quality is demonstrated by how these disparate sources blend seamlessly. The Sankirtan Glorification :- The scriptures and Saints have exalted the practice of sankirtan, or the group recitation of God's names. In His name, the Almighty has declared that He is personally present. This profound truth emphasizes the sacredness and incredible power of calling on God's name. The rationale and unquestionable proof found in our scriptures highlight the transformational power of this straightforward yet profound practice. Bringing Up the Main Question :- Spiritual searchers ask themselves, "Why haven't I realized God when I have taken His name so much?" This is a crucial question. This inquiry is based on the human experience of spiritual hunger and apparent delays in divine realization. I answered this point in my speech by quoting Gauranga Mahaprabhu's Ashtapadi, in which he referred to our predicament as our enormous "misfortune." Infractions and Adversity :- The "misfortune" mentioned by Gauranga Mahaprabhu refers to the sins that impede our spiritual development. Because of these offenses, we cannot completely experience the divine presence included in God's name. We can turn our greatest fortune into our tragedy by realizing and conquering these transgressions. Ajamila and Valmiki's scriptural accounts :- I looked at Valmiki and Ajamila's scriptural accounts to clarify this issue better. These tales are frequently mentioned when debating the effectiveness of saying God's name. I analyzed these tales to make sense of their seeming conflicts and misconceptions. The lives of Ajamila and Valmiki serve as examples of how the name of God can save even people who have lived sinful lives. Conclusion :- An incredible spiritual discourse called "Bhagavannama Mahatmya—The Glories of the Divine Name" gives readers insight into how easy and natural it is to approach the divine. These lessons are presented playfully and insightfully, making it easy for readers to understand how a seemingly simple practice can lead to significant spiritual development. May this book serve as a source of inspiration and direction for your spiritual path.
